Hydrotherapy is known to have positive effects on both physical and mental wellbeing as well as being effective and enjoyable form of physical therapy. By harnesses the unique properties of water, we’re allowed to perform a range of movements that would otherwise be difficult to perform at home or in a clinic. 

Hydrotherapy is also used for relaxation. The pool is heated to a comfortable warm temperature, which helps your muscles relax, relieve pain, boost immunity, which helps reduce stress and anxiety levels. Sessions typically last around 45 minutes.

We make it easy for you to start hydrotherapy. We’ll find a suitable pool near you, and all you need to bring are your essentials, such as swimwear and towels. If you need assistance organising transport or a support worker to accompany you, we can take care of that too.

How Hydrotherapy Works

Hydrotherapy sessions are conducted at local pools and most are equipped with a hoist. The hoist functions as a water chair to provide a safe and convenient way for the participant to enter and exit the water.

When in the pool, our therapists will work with you to perform a range of activities in the water, such as light physical exercise to improve balance, coordination and strength.

Hydrotherapy utilises water’s physical properties to create an environment conducive to healing and exercise.

  • Buoyancy – Water’s buoyancy counteracts gravity, reducing the load on joints, muscles, and bones. This makes movement less painful and more accessible, particularly for individuals with arthritis, injuries, or limited mobility.
  • Resistance – The density of water creates natural resistance, which helps build strength and improve endurance. Adjusting the water depth, speed of movement, or use of equipment allows for customisable levels of resistance.
  • Heat – The heated pools, typically maintained at 32–34 degrees Celsius, relax muscles, improve circulation, and alleviate pain. The warmth also reduces stiffness and promotes a sense of relaxation.
