Experience the Fun and Healing Nature Of Water
Hydrotherapy is known to have positive effects on both physical and mental wellbeing as well as being effective and enjoyable form of physical therapy. By harnesses the unique properties of water, we’re allowed to perform a range of movements that would otherwise be difficult to perform at home or in a clinic.
Hydrotherapy is also used for relaxation. The pool is heated to a comfortable warm temperature, which helps your muscles relax, relieve pain, boost immunity, which helps reduce stress and anxiety levels. Sessions typically last around 45 minutes.
We make it easy for you to start hydrotherapy. We’ll find a suitable pool near you, and all you need to bring are your essentials, such as swimwear and towels. If you need assistance organising transport or a support worker to accompany you, we can take care of that too.

How Hydrotherapy Works
Hydrotherapy sessions are conducted at local pools and most are equipped with a hoist. The hoist functions as a water chair to provide a safe and convenient way for the participant to enter and exit the water.
When in the pool, our therapists will work with you to perform a range of activities in the water, such as light physical exercise to improve balance, coordination and strength.
Hydrotherapy utilises water’s physical properties to create an environment conducive to healing and exercise.
- Buoyancy – Water’s buoyancy counteracts gravity, reducing the load on joints, muscles, and bones. This makes movement less painful and more accessible, particularly for individuals with arthritis, injuries, or limited mobility.
- Resistance – The density of water creates natural resistance, which helps build strength and improve endurance. Adjusting the water depth, speed of movement, or use of equipment allows for customisable levels of resistance.
- Heat – The heated pools, typically maintained at 32–34 degrees Celsius, relax muscles, improve circulation, and alleviate pain. The warmth also reduces stiffness and promotes a sense of relaxation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is hydrotherapy?
Hydrotherapy, also known as aquatic therapy, is a specialised form of therapeutic exercise performed in a heated pool by a physiotherapist. It utilises the properties of water—such as buoyancy, resistance, and warmth—to aid in recovery, reduce pain, and enhance physical performance. Hydrotherapy is ideal for individuals seeking a low-impact form of therapy to improve mobility and overall well-being.
What are the benefits of hydrotherapy?
Hydrotherapy offers numerous physical and emotional benefits, including:
- Relieving chronic pain by reducing joint and muscle strain.
- Improving flexibility, balance, and coordination.
- Building strength through natural resistance in water.
- Boosting cardiovascular fitness in a low-impact environment.
- Reducing stress, improving mood, and increasing confidence in physical abilities.
Who is suitable for hydrotherapy services?
Hydrotherapy is suitable for people of all ages and abilities, including:
- Individuals with chronic conditions like arthritis, fibromyalgia, or back pain.
- Post-surgery patients recovering from joint replacements or injuries.
- People with disabilities such as cerebral palsy or stroke recovery.
- Seniors experiencing balance, coordination, or mobility challenges.
Hydrotherapy vs Physiotherapy: What’s the Difference?
While both hydrotherapy and physiotherapy are led by qualified physiotherapists and focus on improving physical health, they differ in their methods and applications. Hydrotherapy is performed in a heated pool, utilising water’s natural buoyancy and resistance to create a low-impact environment. This makes it ideal for individuals with joint pain, mobility issues, or chronic conditions, as the water reduces stress on the body while promoting relaxation and improved circulation.
Physiotherapy, on the other hand, is typically conducted in a clinical or home setting and involves targeted exercises to strengthen muscles, improve mobility, and rehabilitate injuries. Physiotherapy may include weight-bearing activities and the use of equipment such as resistance bands, weights, or machines to focus on specific areas of recovery.
Hydrotherapy is often preferred for individuals who require a gentler approach to therapy, especially those with chronic pain or severe mobility limitations. Physiotherapy is more versatile and suitable for a wide range of conditions, including acute injuries or post-surgical rehabilitation. Both therapies are effective and can be tailored to your specific needs, often complementing each other for comprehensive care.
