This is the story and testimonial from Emily, one of EnableU’s existing clients. It highlights her background, some of the challenges she faced, and the disability supports we provided.
Background
Emily, a 31 years old resident of Bateau Bay on the Central Coast, NSW, has lived with cerebral palsy her entire life. Her condition has affected her mobility and independence, making daily life a series of challenges.
Over the years, Emily relied on NDIS support to help her stay active and engaged. However, finding a disability services provider who truly understood her needs proved to be a difficult journey.
Emily’s main goal wasn’t just about improving her mobility—it was about reclaiming her independence and, most importantly, building a relationship with a team she could trust.
The Struggles of Finding the Right Fit
For Emily, every day came with its own set of hurdles. Past ndis providers often focused only on achieving clinical benchmarks, like meeting mobility goals or completing a checklist of tasks.
“It felt like I was just a box to tick. No one asked me how I was feeling or what I wanted out of life.” Emily shares.
The constant turnover of support workers added to her frustration. Just as she began to trust one person, they’d leave, forcing her to start over with someone new. This lack of consistency made it hard for Emily to feel secure or heard.
A Fresh Start with EnableU
Determined to make a change, Emily reached out to her support coordinator for advice. After exploring a few local options, she decided to meet with EnableU’s team.
“Right from the start, I felt something different. They asked me about me, not just my condition or disability or what was written in my NDIS plan. It was the first time I felt like someone wanted to understand my whole story.” Emily says.
EnableU worked closely with Emily to create a support plan that felt like a natural extension of her life. They paired her with a small team of support workers who provided in home assistance and physiotherapy that focused on building her strength at her own pace. More importantly, the team prioritised stability, ensuring Emily saw the same familiar faces each week.
Building Trust and Independence
Over time, Emily noticed small but meaningful changes in her daily routine. She could move around her home more confidently and even started cooking simple meals with a little support. But the biggest change wasn’t physical — it was emotional from more smiles and laughs.
Today, with EnableU by her side, Emily feels a renewed sense of strength and purpose. Living with cerebral palsy will always bring challenges, but now she knows she doesn’t have to face them alone.
