Frequently Asked Questions
What locations does EnableU service?
We strive to provide a top NDIS nursing provider for every participant. Operating in NSW and VIC, with a focus on Sydney, Central Coast, Newcastle, and Melbourne, we are trusted by participants and their families. Visit our Locations Page to find out more about the cities and local government areas we cover.
What are NDIS nursing services?
NDIS nursing services include medical and health-related support delivered by a registered nurse to assist NDIS participants in managing their health. These services may cover wound care, health assessments, medication management, chronic condition support, and assistance supports for recovery after a hospital visit. NDIS nursing services aim to enhance participants’ well-being and independence in their preferred setting.
How do I access NDIS nursing services through my NDIS plan?
To access NDIS nursing services, your NDIS plan must include funding under the appropriate categories. Nursing services can typically be funded under:
- Core Supports Category 1: Assistance with Daily Life for daily nursing needs or
- Category 15: Improved Daily Living under Capacity Building for nursing care aimed at improving your independence and skills.
If you have the funding, an NDIS nursing provider like EnableU can commerce delivery of the services you require.
If you are not sure, your support coordinator or NDIS planner can guide you in ensuring these supports are part of your plan.
Does the NDIS cover all my disability nursing needs?
No, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) only covers nursing needs that are directly related to your disability and are not the usual responsibility of the public health system. These supports, known as Disability-Related Health Supports, address health needs that arise as a direct result of your disability.
For all other general medical needs, including acute care or health conditions unrelated to your disability, the public health system is responsible. Your NDIS nursing provider or support coordinator can help you understand which system applies to your needs.
What kind of nurse do I need?
You might see in the NDIS Price Guide that there are different types of nurses available with various prices, including Enrolled Nurses, Registered Nurses, and Clinical Nurses. The type of nurse you need depends on your specific care requirements:
- Enrolled Nurse (EN): Suitable if you already have a Registered Nurse (RN) overseeing your care plan. ENs can provide basic nursing care, such as wound dressing, medication assistance, and monitoring, under the supervision of an RN.
- Registered Nurse (RN): Ideal if you require more comprehensive nursing care or need temporary or permanent coverage for your regular nurse. RNs can manage complex tasks like creating care plans, chronic condition management, and overseeing medication administration.
- Clinical Nurse: Recommended for participants with advanced or complex care needs that require specialised nursing expertise. Clinical Nurses handle tasks like managing severe conditions or providing tailored support for high-intensity situations. Depending on your circumstances, a Registered nurse is capable of handling most complex care needs.
EnableU’s disability nursing team consists of both Enrolled Nurses and Registered Nurses, ensuring we can cater to a wide range of needs.
If you’re unsure about your requirements, contact your support coordinator or reach out to our team for guidance. We’re here to help you find the right level of support.
