What are NDIS core supports?
NDIS core supports are services funded under your NDIS plan to hire a support provider with support workers to help you with day-to-day activities and achieve your goals. This broader category includes Assistance with Daily Life, Transport, Consumables, and Social and Community Participation. Core supports can also cover higher-intensity needs, such as 24-hour support in your home or separate accommodation, depending on your specific requirements.
A support worker can assist with with personal care, meal preparation, household chores, and running errands. They can also accompany you to appointments, social events, or recreational activities, ensuring you feel confident and supported. Support workers can assist with transport, taking you to and from places safely, and provide companionship or supervision for higher-intensity or overnight care if needed. Their role is to provide practical and emotional support tailored to your needs and goals.
Can I use core supports funding flexibly across categories?
Yes, core supports funding is generally flexible and can be used across different categories. In some circumstances, you could also move your funds towards the Capital or Capacity Building category, such as moving the funds towards therapy sessions. Always check with your NDIS planner or support coordinator to confirm if your funding is flexible.
Are there limitations on what core supports can cover?
NDIS Core Supports funding is designed to cover services and items that are reasonable and necessary to help you achieve your goals. However, it cannot be used for expenses unrelated to your disability, such as general living costs or items not specified in your NDIS plan.
