Support at Home Self Management

Self-management gives you more control over how your Support at Home services are delivered while still having the support and oversight of an experienced Support at Home provider.

More Control Over Your Support at Home Services

A Team With Over 35 Years Experience In Providing Aged Care Services. Supporting Participants Across Australia.

Self-management is about giving you more say in the everyday decisions around your care. Instead of your Support at Home Provider (like us)  organising everything for you, you can choose to take responsibility for certain parts of your services or all of it completely. This may include finding your own workers, arranging schedules, negotiating service rates to keeping track of how you would like your funding used. The biggest benefit is that you get more  control and better value from your budget (as long as you negotiate competitive rates with your workers).

Why Choose EnableU for Self Management?

Flexible Self-Management

Choose what you are comfortable with. Whether it is to manage one service, several services or coordinate everything yourself. (This means more control and potentially more savings)

Responsive Team

Questions come up. Plans change. When you need help, you can speak with a real member of our team rather than trying to navigate the system alone.

Self-Managed or Provider-Managed Support at Home?

There isn’t one option that is right for everyone. Some people want maximum involvement in arranging all of their Support at Home services. Others would rather have someone take care of rostering, workers, coordination and administration for them.

The difference comes down to how much responsibility you want to take on yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Support at Home self management allows you to take a more active role in organising your aged care services.

Depending on the arrangement you agree on with your provider (such as us), you may choose your own workers, coordinate services, arrange schedules and have more involvement in how your budget is used.

EnableU still remains as your registered Support at Home provider and continues to provide the required care management, oversight and support.

Your Support at Home provider (which is us) pays your workers and suppliers, even when you are self-managing your services.

This is because the we remain  responsible for ensuring appropriate agreements are in place and that services are delivered in line with the Aged Care Act, Support at Home requirements and the strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards.

The provider is also responsible for claiming eligible service costs back from the Australian Government through the Support at Home funding system.

No. Self-management can be partial.

For example, you could have EnableU organise your support workers and personal care while you arrange your own gardener.

You can decide which parts you feel comfortable managing and which parts you would prefer our team to handle.

You can view all of the services offered under Support at Home.

Yes, in order to self manage your Support at Home package, you must find and coordinate with your own workers and suppliers.

Although note that the service must be included in your Support at Home support plan to begin with and the arrangement must meet Support at Home requirements.

On our end, we also need to be able to meet our own provider responsibilities for any third party delivering funded aged care services. This involves checking and verifying whether your chosen workers are compliant to provide aged care services.

It can, depending on the rate you negotiate with your worker.

For example, if you arrange your own gardener at a lower rate than what our standard service rates are, you will save money.

EnableU charges the actual supplier cost plus a 10% fee (called the self management overhead cap) for approved third-party services arranged under our self-management model.

According to the official aged care guidelines, a participant’s family member can deliver services. However, they should only be engaged when there are no other options available. from.

The decision is made by the provider and the guidelines we are instructed by the government to follow is the following.

Whether:

  • the participant is at risk of harm or neglect without the delivery of services
  • the participant is located in a rural or remote region (as defined by the
    Modified Monash Model)
  • the participant is Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander, or from a culturally and
    linguistically diverse background
  • the family member is appropriately qualified to deliver the specified service(s)
  • the family member meets all other worker obligations under the Act.

If the above criteria are met, we can  engage the family member to deliver services to you.

Self management gives you more control over your services, but your provider still has an important role in making sure your care remains safe, appropriate and compliant.

EnableU continues to provide care management, oversee your Support at Home budget and care plan, review your changing needs, and provide clinical oversight where required.

We also work with you to verify and onboard your chosen workers or suppliers, make sure appropriate agreements and requirements are in place, process eligible invoices and payments, and monitor the quality and suitability of your services.

So while you can take greater responsibility for choosing workers, arranging schedules and managing day-to-day services, EnableU remains behind the scenes to manage the clinical, financial and compliance responsibilities of your Support at Home care.

You can change at any time in either direction. If self management becomes too time consuming or your care needs become more complex, you can discuss having us take on more of the service coordination and finding suitable workers.

Your arrangement can change as your circumstances change.

Both of these are referring to the same program. Support at Home replaced the Home Care Packages Program in November 2025, so self-management has continued under the new program with updated rules and terminology.

If you previously self-managed your Home Care Package, you can continue to have choice and control over your services under Support at Home.

EnableU supports both participants who transitioned from a self-managed Home Care Package and people who are newly approved for Support at Home and wishes to self manage. We can help you understand what has changed, what stays the same and how to structure your services under the new program.
